While previously providing the distinction between aged and un-aged beer, The word mild (when talking beer) now describes flavor. Dark Milds are malt-focused and easy to drink in large amounts. Common aromas are toast, caramel, coffee and malt. Low carbonation and low levels of hop flavor help to not over-power the malt.
Specialty malts: Chocolate Rye, Brown Malt and Amber Malt.
